![]() We had actually gone 2 weeks prior when a friend came in from out of town and wanted to visit. Yari really wanted to see the butterfly exhibit once again. And the kids got tired fairly quickly but with multiple snack breaks under the shade and a few fun games with AJ, the kids enjoyed it all. The kids had a great time! We had a few moments where we had to detour to make restroom breaks (naturally), and nurse the babies. So we parked and unloaded and walked to the garden. What was I thinking? But luckily, I took a deep breath and remembered that my friend was there to help me and if I detached from all expectations, we would have a great time and it would all be worth it. Ahahaha…hilarious! Here I was, thinking we were getting VIP access thanks to my friend on a relaxing, non busy weekday, only to have anxiety creeping in, at the thought of entering a crowded space with potential tantrums and two infants to keep content. Every second Tuesday of the month, the garden is free to enter for everyone. It was the one free day of the month at the botanical garden. We drove up on Tuesday only to notice that the parking lot was packed! What was going on? Was there a special event? No. And to do that, plus hang out in a public space, under the sun, on my own, with four kids under 5?! Am I crazy?! Why yes. The desert botanical garden is about 30 minutes from me (which isn’t too bad) but with current construction of the 202 and traffic randomly getting crazy busy, sometimes I trip out that way can be an hour long. I really wasn’t sure if I’d be up for the trip. She’s a garden member so she could take one adult guest for free and kids are free as well. I hadn’t gone to the DBG in years but my friend AJ had asked if I’d like to join her one of these day while the weather was perfect. ![]() One place I never thought to visit in the spring to admire nature’s beauty, is the Desert Botanical Garden. As a photographer I’ve often come across these magical pockets in the valley and sometimes my eyes detect them subconsciously while driving around. You’ll see pops of purple and golden hues on the desert floor next to Saguaro families. You might catch a few cacti in the valley blooming flowers that you’ll want to pick off but really shouldn’t. You’ll see bright yellow Palo Verde flowers next to fuchsia bougainvillea filling the streets and freeways with the perfect photo backdrops. ![]() Every spring, the Sonoran desert blooms beautifully. ![]()
